Vidit, Madhav, Rishit and Rajat have been classmate in class X. After their exams are over, they happen to meet at a common friend Shruti’s house. Neha, a bright final year student was waiting for her results to be declared. While at home she decided to put her free time to use. Having an aptitude for painting, she tried her hand at decorating clay pots and bowls with designs. She was exited at the praise showered by her friends and acquaintances on her work. She even managed to sell a few pieces of unique hand pottery from her home to people living in and around her colony. Operating from home, she was able to save on rental payments. By the end of summer, she found that she was able to make a profit of Rs.2500 from her paltry investment in colors, pottery and drawings sheets. She felt motivated to take up this work as career. She therefore decided, to set up her own artwork business. She can continue running the business on her own as a sole trader, but she needs more money for doing business on large scale. Her father has suggested that she should form a partnership with her cousin to meet the need of additional funds. Side by side, he is of the opinion that the business might grow further and may require the formation of a company. She is in a fix as to what form of business organization she should go in for?

Vitthal Rao has a shop in Chawdi Bazaar Pune which deals in antique idols of various gods and goddesses. He has taken an insurance policy on his shop and the stock in the shop. While taking the policy he conveyed his intention to the insurance company that he should be provided cover under all probable risk. The insurance company convinced Vitthal Rao that the policy was comprehensive and covered every possible risk. During the tenure of the policy, an earthquake occurred and the shop and stock of Vitthal Rao were destroyed completely. He approached the insurance company for the compensation of loss.
However, the insurance company refused to grant him compensation on the ground that ‘loss by act of God’ was not covered by the policy.
Identify and explain the principle of insurance violated by the insurance company.
